Your key responsibilities
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee construction, operations, maintenance, and deep utilities projects to ensure compliance with legislative, operating license, and City policy requirements.
• Supervise and provide leadership to permanent and temporary employees, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
• Ensure environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and training are maintained in compliance with regulatory and due diligence requirements.
• Develop and implement a Source Control Program for Bylaw and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct regular on-site inspections of wastewater disposal systems to ensure adherence to Water and Sewer Bylaws, National Plumbing Codes, and other applicable standards.
• Oversee audits, inspections, sampling, analysis, and reporting for the city’s wastewater system, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
• Manage budgets, control costs, and optimize resource allocation for financial and operational efficiency.
• Prepare reports and maintain construction, operations, maintenance, and financial records for historical tracking and future planning.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams, external partners, regulatory agencies, and the public, addressing concerns and ensuring alignment on project goals.

• Advanced knowledge of Environmental Acts, Regulations, Licenses, Plumbing Codes, and municipal bylaws.

• Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and successful project outcomes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP software for project management, reporting, and data analysis.
Qualifications
• Diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Technology, Environmental Studies, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience, including three (3) years in a supervisory role.
• Alberta Environmental Protection (AEP) Level 4 Certification in both Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Systems.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
• This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.

Position overview
Resumes are being accepted for the position of Supervisor, Business Services within the Environmental Services Department. Reporting to the Manager of Business Services, this role responsible for leading administrative functions across the department (five divisions), direct provision of customer relationship management, and manage efficient business practices and service delivery to both internal and external stakeholders.
Key duties and responsibilities
• Provide all aspects of supervision including recruitment, training, development and addresses performance management issues with assigned staff.
• Create a motivated, supportive and accountable work environment dedicated to continuous improvement.
• Provide visible and positive leadership to staff, developing and nurturing a work environment that is inclusive, respectful and motivating.
• Participate in budget preparation, forecasting, monitoring and reporting for the division related to operational and capital budget needs.
• Manage quality control and efficiency of financial based activities and provide authorization of procurement, customer invoicing, and payments.
• Oversee and ensure the timely and accurate processing of departmental payroll and financial requirements (ie: timecard entry and management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, Visa reconciliation, journal entries).
• Support procurement of major services, materials, supplies, and equipment; develop and
support service agreements and contracts; develop and award Tenders, RFP’s, RFQ’s.
• Provide customer service support for resolving customer inquiries, complex customer service issues, and utility billing discrepancies.
• Review, develop, implement and monitor best practices, policies, and procedures to optimize administration, including the areas of information management and aligning with corporate standards.
• Collaborate and liaise with various departments and peers to meet corporate deliverables and to ensure a consistent approach for all business practices.
• Act as the departmental representative on corporate working groups and special projects, including corporate stakeholder relationship management, policy development, business system enhancements and upgrades, amongst other assignments.
• Responsible for establishing, managing, and monitoring levels of service for all operational area programs including provision of all services in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
• Define and develop performance reporting metrics to support continuous improvement.
• Prepare and execute annual and multi-year business plans for area of responsibility.
• Assess operational needs and ensures adequate resources are available (materials, equipment, staff) to support staff in meeting work objectives.
• Manages response to customer, council, and media requests for information related to areas of responsibility.
• Oversee health and safety for the program area ensuring compliance with the OHSA, corporate policies, and division specific SOP’s.
• Prepare reports, policies, procedures and standards for the division.

Qualifications and requirements
• Completion of post-secondary education in Business Administration or related discipline. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Experience providing leadership and supervision to a customer service team, preferably in a unionized environment.
• Experience with budget preparation, financial management and reporting, and procurement processes.
• Experience in a utilities environment such as water, wastewater and/or solid waste would be preferred.
• Experience in vendor management and service delivery.
• General knowledge and understanding of municipal financial administration and accounting.
• Experience preparing and implementing policies, procedures and training programs.
• Project management skills with the ability to manage multi‐faceted, concurrent projects and tasks.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a demanding environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to resolve customer inquiries/complaints in an effective manner.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Experience with Maximo, WAM, JD Edwards, Kronos, FMW, or customer service/billing software would be an asset.
• Experience with the implementation, monitoring and optimization of customer relationship management systems would be an asset.
• Experience in a municipal or public sector environment would be considered an asset.
• Must possess a valid Class “G” driver’s licence with a good driving record and access to a reliable vehicle. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract prior to their start date to confirm their licence is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.
Hours of work
35 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Flexibility would be required to attend evening meetings and to meet departmental needs.
Pay/Salary
Non-Union Grade 5: $83,938.40- $104,923.00 per year

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated EOCP Certified Wastewater Collection Operator III to take on a leadership role in the day-to-day operations of Metro Vancouver’s wastewater collection system. The preferred candidate will have a minimum four (4) years experience in wastewater or drainage system operations and maintenance. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Sewer and Drainage Field Services and as part of the Liquid Waste Services Department, the Utility Systems Operator (USO) III oversees the day-to-day operations of Metro Vancouver’s wastewater collections system; including sewers, pump stations, wastewater detention tanks and odour control facilities. The USO III works as part of the Sewer & Drainage Operation Crews in scheduled maintenance and emergency call outs responsible for keeping the system running effectively and efficiently while interacting with contractors, external agencies, and the public.
The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, reliable, and safety-conscious, with expertise in large sewer and drainage collection systems. This position offers the opportunity to apply operational and technical skills in a collaborative team environment while contributing to the efficiency and sustainability of Metro Vancouver’s wastewater infrastructure.
The salary for this position is $3,169.60 bi-weekly ($82,691 per annum) plus 6.25% deferred compensation. The additional 6.25% deferred compensation is earned on hours worked and the additional 6.25% can be taken as compensation or time off. The total compensation for this role is accompanied by an attractive benefits package including the Municipal Pension Plan. This position works Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm. As a Regulatory Analyst you will support the Water Utility by working with various internal and external clients on regulatory issues that can potentially impact City of Calgary operations and capital infrastructure projects. Primary duties include:
• Regularly liaise with provincial and federal regulatory agencies, submit regulatory reports, prepare and review regulatory applications, track emerging regulatory issues.
• Work with provincial regulators to ensure compliance for the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations by obtaining licenses, approvals and associated amendments and renewals.
• Support project managers with provincial and federal regulations to ensure compliance for the Water Utility capital projects.
• Provide internal expertise on environmental regulations, legislations and policies such as the Water Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Operating Approvals, Public Lands Act etc.
• Inform and prepare Water Utility staff of upcoming changes in regulations.
• Provide regulatory and compliance oversight, consultation, and audit functions for the operational areas within the Water Utility.
• Support internal programs that indirectly impact water use and water quality.
• Ensure performance monitoring, trending, document upkeep and reporting to various internal and external agencies.
• Help in the development of long-term water use strategies.
Qualifications
• A degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or related Science field and at least 8 years of related experience working within a regulatory environment of a multidisciplinary organization.
• Knowledge of environmental legislations and regulations is required.
• Preference will be given to individuals that have negotiation experience and have working knowledge of complex processes.
• Professional designation will be considered an asset.
• Experience with Digital Regulatory Assurance System will be considered an asset.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite will be considered asset.
• Success in this position requires excellent communication and technical skills; candidates must demonstrate good interpersonal skills and be customer service focused.

About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Operator, the Wastewater Operator contributes to the effective operation of Wastewater Services for the Regional and Community Utilities Department by ensuring the safe operation and routine preventative and planned maintenance of RDN Wastewater treatment and collection facilities according to permit specifications. This position supports the department by assisting team members in their duties, as required, to meet service expectations, departmental goals, and objectives.
This is an incredible opportunity for an experienced wastewater operator to be a part of the expansion and modernization of the French Creek Pollution Control Centre. The preferred candidate will have a post-secondary diploma in Water & Wastewater Technology, supplemented with an Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) Class III in Wastewater Treatment, with four (4) years of experience at a Class II (or higher) facility and two (2) years of direct responsible charge operation at a Class II (or higher) facility. A current Class 5 BC driver’s license is required. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
The rate of pay for the position will vary based on the EOCP certification level held; Level I: $33.79, Level II: $36.81, Level III: $41.54 per hour. In addition to the base rate, applicants holding current EOCP Wastewater Collection I-IV or Wastewater Treatment IV certification, will receive a $0.75/hr. premium. The position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the collective agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
